The 31st Manila International Book Fair (MIBF): Words Without Borders was held at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, September 15 – 19. This renowned occasion is attended and participated every year by tens of thousands of people comprising of local and foreign publishers, booksellers, distributors, university bookstores, authors, librarians, teachers, students, and scores of book lovers.
Housed in the C&E dome were MedResource, first-rate foreign-authored medical books; Akdang Lokal, quality locally published titles; and the LibBest Library RFID Management System, state-of-the-art digital library system. Also showcased in the C&E booth were basic and higher education textbooks, trade and professional books, information databases provided by Cengage, McGraw-Hill, and Elsevier, locally developed and managed e-learning materials, and the digitization projects of the company.
A “digital corner” was dedicated to CE-Learning, the e-learning product line of C&E that provides interactive educational materials to Philippine schools; Philippine E-Journals, the largest online aggregation of Filipino scholarly journals; CE-Logic, an affiliate company offering online databases and integrated library solutions to educational institutions nationwide; and CE-Platform, soon-to-be a major online portal to all the country’s digitized materials.
All of the company’s projects and products are directed towards providing quality educational materials to Filipino teachers and students. And with this, C&E remains committed to academic and professional excellence—as in the past 17 years of its existence.

CEFI sponsors seminar at the 31st MIBF
“The changing traits of the learners for the 21st century require change in the teaching paradigm.”
Thus said Mr. Tang Kok Keong, president-CEO of ICT Learning, a Malaysian-based company specializing on e-learning, in his talk on the Current Trends and Best Practices of Information and Communication in Technology (ICT) in Education during a seminar, billed as “Redefining Education: Furthering ICT Integration In Today’s Learning System,” sponsored by CEFI on September 15 at the SMX Convention Center.
Mr. Tang emphasized the importance of coupling ICT tools with new teaching pedagogies. With approaches to teaching that complement the use of ICT in, or even outside, the classroom, the students will be better prepared to respond and adapt to today’s fast-changing world. For one, the students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge they will need for a job in the future. According to Mr. Tang, the 21st century skills that students should learn include the ability to create, consume, remix, and share products and ideas through technology.
